Birthday Chick!

During the Biathlon World Cup we saw a few people walking about with chickens on their heads. Strawberry really wanted one, so I told her to go and ask a young man, with a blue one on his head, where he had bought it. I thought she'd chicken out (sorry) and that would be the end of the matter, but she bravely walked up to him and asked in Swedish first and then in English where he had got his fantastic hat. To the Swedish she got a response she didn't understand, gobble-de-gooch (?), and to her English question she got the reply:
"I speak French!"
So we presumed that the hats were purchased in France and we made do with a fuzzy wig in the German colours.
On her birthday I had to buy some more material for the Art Room and in the Art shop, where they also sell fancy dress clothes, sitting on a shelf was a chicken hat. I couldn't leave it behind. Since then she has had to put up with a lot of staring and giggling and a few new names, but she still loves the hat. She uses one of the feet as a pretend microphone, holds it close to her mouth and says:
" I repeat there is a chicken sitting on my head."

On an entirely different subject, she would like to know if there are a lot of "skywalkers" in America?

Nea,

All of our beds have patchwork quilts also. My Mother made them many years ago. I love the chicken hat.
What does "Strawberry" mean by "skywalkers?" I would still like to know how you found our site.

I like Strawberry's style. Brilliant use of the chicken's foot. Wasn't there a Luke Skywalker?

Lori, my Mum made us all patchwork quilts too. Mine has been used so much it needs patching up again. That can be my project for the Easter break. I found your site via a comment on my blog from Marta.

Pat, it got us thinking to, in the end we had to ask what she meant, and it wasn't Starwars, but tall buildings she wanted to know about.

Nea...my grandkids are visiting for a week and the oldest, Ariana, saw "strawberry" with the chicken hat on. She wants to write to her, so here are a few words.
If your daughter wants to respond, she can send it to us at: skoogfam@frontiernet.net

Hi it's Ariana... when I saw you Strawberry, in the chicken hat, it was pretty funny. Now I kind of want one for myself. I am 9 years old turning 10 in May. And did you know some of the tallest "skywalkers" in the world live only 1 hour away from my house? The city it's in is called New York City. I would like to be your new penpal... that's the reason why I wanted to talk to you. write back soon.

Hi Strawberry, I very much admire the way you have trained that chicken to sit so still on your head. It must keep you very warm, which is odd for such a cool item. I hope your head doesn't hatch. Do you think Humpty-Dumpty might have had a hat like yours? Don't take any notice of silly comments, we are just very, very jealous!!!

Let me get this straight. You would cheerfully put a chicken on your childs head and post it on the internet?

You are my kinda girl! ;-)

Hello Ariana
I am 8. I'd love to be your penpal. I'll send you a letter soon.
From Strawberry.

Hello GUC
It's not the hatching I' worried about, it's when she needs to go to the toilet.
