More from Stockholm

A rune stone and a canon help prop up a building in the old town.

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Sylvia kindly provide a backdrop with their city palace,
but they didn't invite us in for tea.

In front of the palace.
A soldier's life is terribly hard.

Perhaps if you had mentioned you were obviously related having an uncle Carl and a grandmother Sylvia they would have rolled out the red carpet and sounded a royal fanfare?

I don't think they were at home, probably off gallivanting about on their summer hols.

Which is why I am relieved my grand-son has changed his mind about joining the army.

Yes, I would be too.
The M.O.T.H. is ex-army, but things are a bit different here, Sweden hasn't been at war for something like 200 years, still I wouldn't want my two to join up.

In the first of these photoes from Stockholm, I feel sure that your youngest daughter is pointing at that ancient wrinkly stone set in the wall and saying "Look Mummy, a prunestone".
