Pancakes, please...
These are called "semlor" and eaten on Shrove Tuesday, floating in a puddle of tepid milk. Fortunately Shrove Tuesday comes but once a year. We get to eat pancakes all the other days; another good reason for living here.
Together with pea soup and punch on Thursdays, cottage cheese and lingonberry jam on Mondays, caviar and leek on Wednesdays and brown sugar and lemon juice on Fridays. See you soon.
How do you take your pancakes on Shrove Tuesday? My mother would sprinkle them with sugar and lemon juice, then roll them and cut them into segments. Tasty, and a lot pleasanter than being shriven.
Lemon juice and dark brown sugar, rolled up and sprinkled with caster sugar and then cut. It's the only way for me. Jam, if I have to, but as for savoury pancakes I'd rather be shriven, thank you.
