Taken last Sunday...

...this Sunday it rained, so there's not as much snow now. Lots on at work so not so much time to spend here, but will be back before long as it's soon the Eater holidays (typo...but it's not so far wrong:)

Hi, Ruth. Those are smashing shots of late winter up there; And the girls look as though they are thoroughly enjoying life.
Warm regards, Pa and Granny.

My goodness aren't they growing? I love their outfits - looking both snug and chic. So different to here.

Nea,

Lori tells me that you want to know info about planting garlic. Well, hopefully, I can help you.
First, is soil prep. Add compost such as horse/cow/chicken manure, dig into soil. Use leaves, grasses, also to build up soil. The material added, will create a microbially active environment for worms, and other critters.
Garlic is a heavy feeder, and like water, but not so much that you drown the roots.Soil should have a ph of 6.5. As you add organic material, the ph should be maintained by the decomposition process. I have found that as you continually add compost material, the ph stays right on.
Plant the garlic cloves about 2 inches in the soil, and you can mulch the area to retain moisture. We plant in the early part of October, with harves time in mid to late July.
Hope this helps. Please keep me in formed. I am available for advice if needed.

I must be lucky, I put the cloves in the ground amongst the roses (keeps the greenfly of the roses a treat!)and it grows abundantly. My garden is heavy clay, but I mulch it well with compost made the previous year, helped along with the bedding from the Guinea pigs! The garden is totally organic (well apart from whatever the rain contains these days!)

Love your blogs Ruthie x

Hi Pa and Granny, we're hoping there'll still be some snow left out at the cottage when we get there tomorrow. Today it was warm enough to walk around without jackets, here in town. We've put the sledges away and got the bikes out.

Hi Pat, thank you! Miss T's outfit is actually my winter overall, an old Swedish airforce one. She can now where all my clothes comfortably, appart from my shoes, she's out grown those!

Hi Gary
Thank you very much for your help. I'll talk nicely to the people at the riding stables and ask if I can have some manure.

Hi Maggie,
I don't think I've got any roses to plant them between, or greenfly to keep at bay, but they do say that if you eat lots of garlic the mozzies stay away.
